my tolerance for people's stupidity is at its lowest among university students, i can't tolerate people who are less educated than that.
people who have attended vocational school (working class) have failed the lower secondary school level. you can't talk to someone like that about philosophy and psychology, at all, because in the finnish education system, such things are not taught to them in vocational school, because their level of awareness and emotional intelligence is not up to that level and never will (not because they can't, but because their attitude towards learning has been the same for a long time and they should change their attitude so radically that it seems unrealistic). so if you are a philosopher, you cannot talk to finnish working class people at all, because they don't understand what the fuck you're talking about and are incapable of rational discussion. if they don't understand the basics, how would you expect them to be able to have a rational conversation? heck, they usually don't even know english. if they don't know english, how would you expect them to be able to read the studies that are always published in english? they will simply never reach the level of scientific thinking.
besides, yes, i could stop being an elitist jerk and just teach those things, but first of all, they've ended up in that social class because they're not interested in anything, so you would just be wasting your own time and throwing pearls before swine, and secondly, ultimately, learning is the person's own responsibility. the fact that i would start teaching other people for free is always absent from my own learning. either you pay me for your teaching, or go to upper secondary school or university for free. thank you.
