the gentrification of the left can be seen very strongly in this moral panic of temu/shein. leftists are full of middle class and upper middle class people who don't know shit about poverty.
the funny thing is that finnish leftists had talked about how in helsinki public transportation has become expensive and it is justified that the poor travel with fake tickets. they have also said that if the poor steal food or something else, it is immoral to report the poor shoplifters.
but when the poor buy products from temu/shein, all the sudden, they are immoral.
first leftists complain how expensive everything is and say that stealing things is therefore completely fine, but when you legally buy cheap chinese products, the poor can't own those cheap things.
it's funny when some middle-class performative activist doesn't understand that poverty isn't that you're precariat or lower middle-class who cannot afford to buy a house. poverty means being on the poverty line (which in finland is less than €1400/month) and in the worst case living on welfare, which means that you can't meet your basic necessities. poverty is not that you can choose ethical products, you buy the cheapest of all because YOU HAVE TO.
they want these stores banned. yes, so you want the poor to suffer?
the funniest thing is their stupidity when it comes to understanding the global economy. so they don't realize that western brands that emphasize the ethics of their products buy specifically from the same chinese, bangladeshis, turks and congolese that you moralize buying from. oh why do they emphasize their own ethics even when they're complete hypocrites who are profiting from ripping off chinese too? so that you would believe their bullshit and not buy their warehouses empty so that they wouldn't lose business opportunities when they sell chinese products at ten times more expensive. they don't want you to buy chinese products from the chinese themselves, but from a western middleman who sells them at ten times the price.
